In June 1941, Germany invaded the Soviet Union, along with Finland, Romania, and other Axis nations. Germany was seeking another lightning victory, like those attained in Poland, France, and elsewhere: four years and millions of lives later, Soviet troops captured Berlin and forced Germany to surrender.
